Isla del Sol belongs to the city of St. Petersburg and is surrounded on all sides by the Boca Ciega Bay. Often referred to as a “5-Star Island,” Isla del Sol began in 1957 when the State of Florida Department of Transportation decided to build the Pinellas Bayway, which consisted of an eight-mile roadway system and three bridges. This project enabled the developer to create the beautiful and tropical Isla del Sol. One bridge linked the Isla to the Gulf beaches and one linked Isla to Tierra Verde, and the third bridge is on Mullet Key, or Fort DeSoto. One of the best ways to view the many sights on the island is to drive through the Pinellas Bayway. The community of Isla del Sol is home to approximately 3200 households on the southernmost tip of St. Petersburg. The island boasts an 18-hole golf course, a beautiful white sand beach lined with mature coconut palms, and also a yacht and country club. “The Shoppers Village” offers a variety of upscale shops, restaurants and other services. All of the well-known Gulf beaches, including St. Pete’s Beach, are just a short five-minute drive west. Enjoy miles and miles of sandy beach and activities such as fishing, boating, parasailing, water skiing, swimming, waverunning and dolphin watching. The flat terrain of the area makes it also great for in-line skating, hiking and biking.
